Ophthalmic pathology is a mainstay in ophthalmic practice. A deep understanding of ophthalmic pathology is essential to being a good clinician, since what is seen from other disease entities in ophthalmic practice is simply an interpretation of gross pathology and sometimes a microscopic evaluation of diseases.

Ophthalmology is the only branch of medicine that strongly depends on the clinical skills of the practitioner for making a sound diagnosis. In eye diseases, an ophthalmologist can simply ‘see it all’, starting from the eyelid and ocular surface, and proceeding to the eyeball and intraocular structures up to the retina and optic nerve. The aim of this work is to present an easy-to-study, comprehensive and in-depth understanding of basic ophthalmic pathology, including its clinical correlation to practising ophthalmologists and pathologists. This will allow a greater understanding of the aetiology, pathogenesis and manifestation of, and complications seen in, various disease entities following a correct diagnosis. This will have a positive effect on all individual ophthalmologist practices.
Great effort was taken in the creation of the video clips and 3D animation, in order to ensure the accurate demonstration of the pathogenesis of the various diseases. Appropriate attention was paid to the dimensions and anatomical relationship of the various structures in order to show tissue interactions in the eye in real time.
